Craig Coulthard – Literature and Fun Places
Craig Coulthard presents Literature and Fun Places, a solo exhibition of paintings that could appear to be relics, but feature contemporary and anachronistic elements placed in dialogue with one another. Some of the influences and interests include:
– imagined conversations – a collision of imagery from across time and space – Japanese woodcuts, Pictish stones, cars, landscapes – fragments of history, rearranged – moments that don’t make sense – symbols and eras colliding – cropping and restaging of imagery – echoes of the past in new formations – timelines bending, breaking, folding – artefacts out of place
